Borek Sipek

Borek Sipek was born in 1949 in Prague. During 1964 – 1968, he studied furniture design at the Art Academy in Prague. After the Russian occupation in 1968 he immigrated to Germany. There he studied at the Art Academy in Hamburg from 1969 to 1973, and from 1973 – 1977 he completed a study in philosophy at the University of Stuttgart. During 1977 – 1979 he served as a teacher’s assistant at the University for Industrial-design in Hannover. In 1979 he finished his doctorate in architecture at the technical University in Delft. From 1979 until 1983 Borek Sipek taught design theory at the University in Essen. In 1983 he was awarded a prestigious architectural prize for his design of a glass house in Hamburg which he made for his sister. The same year he moved to Amsterdam where he started his own studio for architecture and design named Studio Sipek. From there he started visiting the Czech Republic again where he, with thanks to Rene Roubicek, started working with glass-master Peter Novotny.
Borek Sipek’s creations have been put on display in numerous museums across the world, for example: The Museum of Modern art in New York

He works for several renowned design firms, such as:
